Second Port of Call - Belize

Our second port of call was a second visit to Belize City, Belize.  We were excited because we had signed up to see some Mayan ruins.  I especially enjoy going to see tangible history - standing in a place and imaging those who lived there and how they lived and being in awe of all they accomplished.  We have seen many Mayan ruins over the last few years and it never ceases to amaze me how different they all are.  No two sites are ever the same.

The last time we were in Belize we went to the Mayan site Lamani.  We loved it but decided to see something new.  We went to the site of Altun Ha.

There are some neat and interesting facts about Altun Ha - apparently, the Belizians not knowing that there were ancient Mayan temples in the grassy hills excavated the stones and many were used in residential building.  Also, many of the temples and structures are only excavated on the fronts of the buildings and remain grassy hills on the back so that the structures stay intact.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the site and it was really neat to stay in such a historic place.  Lorne and I climbed to the top of the largest temple at the site and it was a really nice view.

After our tour, we headed back to the boat and relaxed in a hot tub as it was a nice hot day and the boat wasn't in motion.  We had tried a hot tub on the first sea day but the water was lukewarm at best and with all the wind, we were getting slapped in the face by water.  Not super pleasant.

We enjoyed a karaoke and a show and a delicious dinner.
